Spouse/Dependent Open Work Permit

If you are in Canada on a temporary Resident Visa i.e., a Student Visa or Work Visa and want to invite your Spouse to live and work in Canada, then this program is for you. Your dependent child is also eligible to join you in Canada under a visitor record or Study Permit.

Options to apply for your spouse outside of Canada :

1) Apply for an Open Work Permit or
2) Apply for a visitor visa then apply for an open work permit
You can apply from outside Canada or Within Canada. There are specific requirements one should meet depending upon where applying.

Eligibility requirement for all applicants inside or outside Canada

Eligible and prove that you are financially able to support yourself and family members in Canada
you do not have record of criminality
Good health conditions
Willingly follow the conditions of the work permit to leave Canada when the permit expires
Give the officer any other documents they ask for to prove you can enter the country.

Eligibility Requirement :

Your spouse may be eligible for an open Work Permit
If you are in Canada and

Have a valid study permit or work permit.
If you have a study permit, then you are eligible for a post-graduation work permit after graduation.
If you have a study permit, you are a full-time student at a public post-secondary school, such as a college or university, or CEGEP in Quebec, a private college-level school in Quebec, a Canadian private school that can legally award degrees under provincial law.
If you have work permit, then you must be working under National Occupational Classification skill type 0, A, or B and allowed to work in Canada.

Benefits of applying for an open work permit :

Job offer is not required for your spouse, and his/her open work permit will be valid for the same period of time as your study permit or Work permit.
Open Work Permit allows a person to work full time for any employer in Canada
There are no education and previous work experience requirements

Upload required documents
Pay fees

Fees :

Spousal work permit – $ 255

work permit fee – $ 155 CAD
open work permit holder fee -$ 100 CAD

Bio metric Fees – $ 85 CAD

Processing Time :

From India – 8 weeks
From Inside Canada – 141 Days
