Alberta’s New Accelerated Tech Pathway

Alberta announced a New Accelerated Tech Pathway on January 13, 2022 to accelerate the processing of tech candidate applications.

To be eligible for this program, you must have both, an active profile in the Express Entry pool of candidates and be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Candidates currently working full time for an Alberta employer or having a full time job offer from an Alberta based tech industry employer in a tech occupation may get a chance to expedite processing. This pathway program is open to foreign professionals as well as professionals in Canada and gives them the opportunity to become Permanent Residents in six months or so, if they meet the requirements and eligibility. They will also receive a letter of support from the Alberta government if they require a work permit. Alberta has divided the process of applying for an Accelerated Tech Program into three parts.

Firstly, get into the Express Entry Pool by creating an Express Entry profile under any of its three immigration program. i.e.

Federal Skill Worker Program

Canadian Experience Class

Federal Skill Traders Program

To apply for the tech accelerated pathway program in Alberta, fill out the form that is available online. The form includes details to be filled in, like your Express Entry Profile and a tech job offer or employment in Alberta. After you fill out the online form, AINP will check to see if you qualify for the stream. If yes, the AINP will send you an email inviting you to apply for a provincial nomination. You must receive this letter to apply; otherwise, you cannot. Apply once you receive the e-mail invitation from Alberta, recheck if you meet the assessment criteria, and submit an application. Completed applications will be placed in a pool of eligible applications. AINP considers this application for a provincial nomination.

Some Important Criteria: If you have a nomination from Alberta for a different stream other than the Accelerated Tech Pathway, you cannot use that nomination to apply for the Tech Pathway. Fraud or misrepresentation in an application may cause a ban from reapplying for up to 5 years to AINP. Nominations cannot be extended.

A nomination from Alberta does not guarantee permanent residence in Canada. But as this stream is aligned with express entry, if you get a nomination, Alberta will award you 600 points in addition to your express entry points. Additional points will put you at the top of the express entry pool and give you a strong possibility of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency from IRCC in the next round of invitations.
